Laser Tattoo Removal - Frequently Asked Questions

How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?

As the Laser is guided over your tattoo, short pulses of energy penetrate through the skin and are absorbed by the Tattoo Ink, causing it to shatter into tiny fragments. Over the weeks following treatment your white blood cells flush away the particles, lightening the appearance of the tattoo.

How much does Laser Tattoo Removal cost?

Treatments start at just £20 but, as no two tattoos are exactly the same, we always price individually for each client based on size, density of ink, design and shape. Click through to our Tattoo Removal Pricing page for more information.

There are never any hidden costs.

Is Laser Tattoo Removal safe?

YES.  We use our consultation to ascertain whether laser tattoo removal treatment is safe for you. Sometimes certain medications or skin conditions can prevent treatment temporarily but we will advise if this is the case. You will also be advised on aftercare to minimise any reactions.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal hurt?

The sensation of the laser is described as an elastic band flicking the skin. We minimise discomfort by using state of the art cooling technology before and throughout treatment.

You may also wish to use a numbing cream before your treatment such as Emla which is available at most High Street pharmacies.

How many treatments does Laser Tattoo Removal take?

Amateur tattoos take between two and six sessions. Professional tattoos can take between six and twelve sessions. There are many factors that will affect the number of sessions needed such as the type and colour of ink used, your skin type and your general health too.

How long do I have to leave between treatments?

This will depend on the size of your tattoo and skin type but between 8 and 12 weeks is advisable; this allows your body time to flush away the shattered pigment for maximum fading between sessions.

My tattoo is multiple colours, will it still work?

Yes, we use Q-Switch laser technology which allows us to switch between different wavelengths for each ink colour you have.

We will give you full aftercare advice by e-mail immediately after your appointment. You may experience swelling, redness, a white frosting, blistering or scabbing in the days following treatment.  We are always on hand to offer advice.

Do you have parking?

We are conveniently situated next to Massie St car park. Parking starts at just 40p for two hours.

Can I go in the Sun after Laser Tattoo removal?

NO! You must stay out of the Sun both before and after your treatment. We cannot treat tanned skin both fake and real so please don’t sunbathe or apply false tan before your appointment. After your treatment you’ll need to keep the area out of the sun for one month and apply high factor sun protection. Exposure to Sun can cause both darkening (hyper-pigmentation) and or lightening (hypo-pigmentation).

Will laser tattoo removal leave scars?

In rare cases lasers can cause scarring. If you follow all aftercare advice and space out treatments as advised by your practitioner, the chances of scarring are minimal. At the Waxologist Wax & Laser we have invested in the most clinically sound and tested technology available to ensure our clients’ safety. It is extremely unlikely you will experience scarring from treatments performed by us.
